Roving with Freycinet, without the letter “A”

First published in 1853, this 1881 edition issued long following the demise of the writer (1855).

Here, the eccentric sketcher of the Freycinet expedition set himself the job of describing his trip throughout the world without using one very helpful vowel (excepting, it must be confirmed, the title…). This 1881 edition includes the notice of how the first version from the 1850s, sent to the editor in letter-form, connected to their contest of wits. The editor responded with his own letter, completely without the letter “C” (jokingly describing his effort, the “réponse sensée”).
